Change in RS-422A/485 connection: NS-V2 was connected with loose wires to the terminal block (RDA-, RDB+, SDA-, SDB+, FG) of the RS-232C/RS-422A converter unit, but NS-B connects directly to the D-sub 9-pin COM2. Refit the connector according to the signals in the table above, set the communication standard to "RS-422A" (or "RS-485") in [Communication Settings] in CX-Designer V4 and transfer. The PLC connection cable NB-RSEXT-2M (RS-422A/485, 2 m) can also be used.

Barcode reader: For the V410-HDS4608SR, supply 5 V with the AC adapter V410-AC0-1 and use the connection cable V430-WPLC-2M.

Screen Data Conversion Rules

When converting NS-V2 screen data (.IPP) for NS-B with [Tools] - [Convert] - [Import] in CX-Designer V4, the display positions and sizes of parts are converted according to the following rules based on the resolution difference (the Y coordinate is not offset).

Overview of the NS-V2 → NS-B Replacement Procedure

Caution: always check the existing equipment for positive grounding (24 V side grounding)

The internal power supply of the NS-B is non-isolated. If the +24 V side and ground side of the NS-B are short-circuited (24 V side grounding), +24 V and power GND are shorted via the signal GND/FG of a connected PC or similar, leading to equipment damage. Check both the wiring diagrams and the actual equipment with a tester or similar.

If they are short-circuited, either Measure 1: change the wiring so the 24 V side is not grounded, or Measure 2: insert an isolated DC power supply between the external power supply and the NS-B for isolation.

  1. Preparation: check for positive grounding → upload screen data from the NS-V2 (CX-Designer Ver3, USB) → convert for NS-B in CX-Designer V4, check and fix places affected by function changes
  2. Removing the NS-V2: power OFF → remove all cables → remove the memory card (if used) → remove from the operation panel
  3. Mounting the NS-B: mount the attachment → mount the NS-B → wire the cables (cut off the Y terminals and connect power directly to the terminal block; rework RS-422A/485 to D-sub 9-pin) → insert USB memory (if used)
  4. Startup: power ON → download screen data (CX-Designer V4, USB) → check written values, screen transitions and displayed values on the actual equipment → start operation

If CX-Designer is not available on site, you can turn ON DIP SW1 and SW5 on the NS-V2 to automatically upload to the memory card (BANK1) and read it on a PC. For the NS-B, write it to USB memory and start with DIP SW1 and SW2 ON to download automatically (return SW1 and SW2 to OFF afterwards).

Summary of Points to Note When Replacing

ItemDescription
Positive groundingThe NS-B power supply is non-isolated. In panels with 24 V side grounding, +24 V and power GND can short via the FG of a PC etc., damaging equipment. Always check with wiring diagrams and a tester, and either wire so the 24 V side is not grounded or insert an isolated DC power supply.
Connectable DevicesSerial connections to Mitsubishi, Siemens, Rockwell, Yokogawa, Yaskawa and others, Modbus TCP, Trajexia, Controller Link and printers cannot be connected. OMRON SYSMAC (serial / FINS / EtherNet/IP), Modbus (serial), temperature controllers, Memory Link and barcode readers can.
Supported standardsDoes not support marine standards, UL hazardous locations or UL Type-4. The UL standard changes to UL61010-2-201.
Panel cutoutThe panel cutout becomes smaller for all sizes. The matching attachment (NB□□-ATT0□) allows mounting without panel machining. Depth of the NB10W increases from 48.5 mm to 54.0 mm.
Cable connection directionPort direction changes on models other than NB15. If there is no rear space, use a D-sub side-exit hood (XM2S-0921 / MAH90-9-M2.6) or a commercially available side-exit connector.
Power wiringY terminals cannot be used. Cut off the Y terminal, strip 6.5 mm of insulation and fix the wire directly to the terminal block (0.3 to 0.5 N·m).
RS-422A/485No converter adapter needed. Wire directly to the D-sub 9-pin COM2 and select the communication standard in the CX-Designer V4 communication settings.
Barcode readerCOM2 does not supply 5 V. Supply 5 V with an external power supply (such as V410-AC0-1) and connect with V430-WPLC-2M.
Screen dataConvert with CX-Designer V4. NS12/NS10/NS8 get a wide resolution and part positions are offset in the X direction (NS10 is scaled 1.25×). Parts placed outside the screen may become visible.
Touch operationTwo-point simultaneous press is not possible. Open the system menu by double-tapping one of the 4 corners. Calibrate periodically because it uses analog resistive film.
Retained memoryBecause saving happens every 30 s, changes made just before a power cut may not be retained. For immediate save, turn $SB62 ON.
Date and timeThe display range is 2024-01-01 to 2062-01-09. Being battery-free, time is retained for about 10 days (40°C). To synchronize with the PLC, use the SAP [PLC→NS time adjustment].
